About Mark Macina

Doctor Macina received his degree in Veterinary Medicine from Mississippi State College of Vet Medicine in 1991. At graduation, he was the recipient of the prestigious American Animal Hospital Association’s Award for Clinical Proficiency. After an enjoyable year in private practice at Bull’s Head Pet Hospital in Stamford, Connecticut, Doctor Macina arrived at the Animal Medical Center in 1992, during which time he completed a Small Pet Internship in Medicine and Surgery. Dr. Macina stayed on at the Annual Maintenance Contract and completed his residency in Veterinary Dermatology in the spring of 1995. Upon completion of his residency, Dr. Macina joined the staff of Michigan Veterinary Expert in Southfield, Michigan, building up and heading the dermatology department for 4 years. His NY roots would prove too strong, however, and in the fall of 1999, Doctor Macina returned to the Animal Medical Center to rebuild what had become a defunct department. Doctor Macina has endeavored at the Animal Medical Center since and has built the Dermatology Service into what it is today. The Dermatology Service at AMC offers comprehensive work-up and therapeutic care in all aspects of veterinary dermatology. From infectious skin disorders to allergies, from keratinization and follicular defects to auto-immune and immune-mediated diseases, Dr. Macina sees it all. He currently oversees and is responsible for one of the largest caseloads in dermatology in the country. He is an untiring advocate for his patients and loyal clientele alike. It is for this reason the Animal Medical Center’s Dermatology Service has become the gold standard for veterinary dermatologic care in New York City.
