Dr Jennifer McMeans Veterinarian – Animal Medical Center Kansas City

About
Dr Jennifer McMeans Veterinarian decided I was going to be a veterinarian when I was three years old. I believe that God gives us a passion and calling in our lives and helping animals is mine. I went to undergrad and Veterinary School at Kansas State University. I have been practicing general medicine for the last 10 years. I love the mission of helping people by helping their animals. I have also developed a passion for rescue and community outreach/education while working at a non-profit organization. I am currently fostering a rescue group. I like working on medical cases and skin issues. I also like providing hospice care for our geriatric patients.

I have three children and multiple pets so my life is pretty busy and beautifully chaotic! My kids and my animals are my life. My kids are very active and into gymnastics and soccer. They have also developed a love for animals and encourage the habit of taking on fosters/rescues. I keep telling them and myself though that we can’t keep them all because then we won’t be able to help the next one that needs our care! The ages of my animals range from 8 years to 10 months. I have two dogs: Justin, 8, and Charlie, 10 months. Britney, 14, and Miley, 13, will forever remain in my heart as I always tell the kids that Britney was my first baby! I have two cats: Cheech, 6, and Maggie, 5 months. Maggie came into the clinic as a neonate when I was on call and had to be bottle-fed. She has congenital medical issues so I have adopted her and she will get to live out her life being spoiled. Maggie’s best friend is our Bunny, Emma. They can oft be found snuggled up together. Emma was found loose wandering the streets and was brought into the shelter. She enjoys her fresh veggies and hay and outside playtime when it’s nice.

When I’m not working I like to do DIY/craft projects around the house. I love shopping at the West Bottoms and re-purposing old furniture. I also like to help out at Church and spend time with my family. I grew up in Overland Park and much of my extended family lives in this area. I currently live in Tonganoxie, KS. When I first got Britney I was just starting vet school and we lived in houses that were split up into apartments and had little yard space. I promised her that one day she would be able to have plenty of area to run and I was able to keep that promise!
